Living History at the Historic Carson House

The Historic Carson House Museum showcases life in western North Carolina from the late 18th to early 20th centuries. The museum features original rooms furnished with period antiques, artifacts, and personal items belonging to the Carson family and other early settlers.

Exhibits highlight the region’s Revolutionary War and Civil War history, stagecoach travel, and plantation life, along with local Native American artifacts. Visitors can explore the restored kitchen building, springhouse, and other outbuildings, as well as learn about the home’s use as a courthouse, inn, and center of local government.

The museum also includes exhibits on notable guests, including Davy Crockett and Andrew Jackson, and offers guided tours that share stories of the people who shaped McDowell County’s history.
